Flee is a powerful animated documentary that tells the true story of Amin Nawabi, a child refugee who fled Afghanistan to Denmark and has been keeping a secret hidden for 20 years. The film is directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, who has known Amin since they were teenagers. Through animated scenes and archival footage, the film depicts Amin's past and present, as he struggles to confront his traumatic experiences and the secret that threatens to upend his life. The story begins with Amin's idyllic childhood in Kabul, where he lives with his mother, sisters, and older brother. However, their lives are disrupted by the Soviet-Afghan War, and they are forced to flee to Russia. The family later moves to Sweden, where they face further challenges and danger. In the present day, Amin is offered a position at Princeton University, but his past comes back to haunt him when he discovers that his family is still alive in Sweden.
