Inspired by real events, "Those Who Stayed" is a gripping drama anthology series that explores the personal struggles and triumphs of ordinary people who remained in Kyiv during the sudden and chaotic Russian invasion in February 2022. Through six interconnected stories, we follow the lives of Olga, a mother of two who is forced to shelter in a small room with her two daughters and her ex-husband; Klaus, a German doctor who risks everything to rescue his girlfriend; Andriy, a famous pop star who must learn to survive on his own for the first time and becomes a symbol of resistance on social media; and the dedicated employees of a local zoo who choose to stay behind to care for the animals. These are the stories of people who refused to leave their homes, their loved ones, and their sense of humanity behind, even in the face of unimaginable danger and uncertainty.
