Controlled, alert, and seemingly game for anything, Ethan Hawke has become one of the most reliable presences in movies.

Hawke finds him in details and tics, a man never able to bask in success because all that happened was he'd been proved right again, and he was off on another obsession.

To watch Tesla the film is to admire its ambition while regretting its follies. Much like Tesla the man, perhaps?
