In 1938 India, a young girl named Chuyia is sent to an ashram for widows after her husband's death. She befriends a beautiful widow named Kalyani, who is being prostituted by the ashram's leader, Madhumati. Chuyia's innocence is shattered when she discovers Kalyani's fate, and she becomes determined to escape the ashram and find a better life. Meanwhile, a follower of Mahatma Gandhi named Narayan falls in love with Kalyani and tries to save her from her situation. However, their love is doomed by the societal norms of the time. As Chuyia and Narayan's paths cross, they must confront the harsh realities of India's caste system and gender inequality. Will they be able to find a way out of their difficult circumstances and find hope for a brighter future?
