Waiting for the Sun is a documentary that follows the lives of three Chinese children who are forced to live in an orphanage after their father is sentenced to death. Death row in China has a higher population than anywhere else in the world, leaving children of convicts alone and stigmatized. Grandma Zhang, a former prison guard, founded an orphanage to provide a home for these children. The film takes place in Nanzhao and shows how these children learn to take care of themselves and support each other during the toughest times of their lives.
