In the midst of propaganda and control, a young girl named Zin-mi prepares to join the Korean Children's Union on the Day of the Shining Star, Kim Jong-il's birthday. This documentary captures a year in the life of a family in Pyongyang, North Korea, revealing the surreal contrast between the ritualized explosions of color and joy, and the pale, everyday reality that lies beneath. As the family goes about their daily lives, the film exposes the subtle cracks in the facade of a supposedly perfect society, all while maintaining a delicate balance between the scripted scenes and the director's own vision.
