In 1928 Kansas, two teenagers from different social classes, Bud and Deanie, are deeply in love and dream of a future together. However, their families' disapproval and their own desires for a more intimate relationship drive them apart. Bud succumbs to pressure from his parents and society, breaking up with Deanie.
