"Rookies" is a documentary that follows the journey of a group of young dancers at a unique dance academy in Paris. The students, who come from socially deprived areas, are trained to become professional dancers while also preparing for their A levels. Through hip-hop, they learn to translate their experiences into physical energy and overcome setbacks. The film negotiates themes such as origins, pains, dreams, and hopes, and features an intimately immersive camera that pulls the audience into the action. Despite injuries and resource limitations, the students find hope, motivation, and inner transformations through their dance training.
