Montauks vindblæste, brede strande er storslåede og billedernes overvejende efterårsfarver underbygger subtilt filmens melankoli. Stellan Skarsgård i hovedrollen er ligeledes kompetent og velvalgt som den støvede kunstner med modne kærlighedskvaler.
