Plastic China takes a poignant look at the lives of those living on the fringes of global capitalist realities, through the lens of a family-run plastic recycling plant in China. Against the backdrop of endless mountains of plastic waste, we follow the stories of 11-year-old Yi Jie, who dreams of an education, and her father Pen, who hopes to improve his family's fortunes. As they navigate the harsh realities of their world, we see the stark contrast between their lives and the communist dream that once promised a better future. Through their struggles and triumphs, the film exposes the complexities of poverty, ambition, and hope in a world where prosperity is often just out of reach.
