Monster-in-Law is a romantic comedy about Charlotte "Charlie" Cantilini (Jennifer Lopez), a temp, dog walker, and aspiring fashion designer who finally finds her dream man in Dr. Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan). However, their relationship is put to the test when Kevin's overbearing and controlling mother, Viola Fields (Jane Fonda), becomes determined to break them up. Viola, a former newscaster who was recently replaced by someone younger and had a meltdown on live television, fears that she will lose her son just as she lost her career. She enlists the help of her loyal assistant Ruby and Kevin's ex-girlfriend Fiona to sabotage their relationship. As Charlie tries to navigate Kevin's world and win over his mother's approval, Viola does everything in her power to ruin their relationship and keep Charlie away from her son.
