The Last King

In 13th century Norway, a civil war between the Birkebeiners and the Baglers ravages the land. The Birkebeiners, led by King Haakon Sverresson, possess the throne in Nidaros, but the Baglers threaten their power with support from Denmark. When King Haakon is poisoned by the corrupt aristocrat Gisle, he reveals that he has a son with a woman named Inga, and has sent two Birkebeiner agents, Torstein and Skervald, to protect him. The agents face numerous challenges as they navigate the treacherous landscape and battle against the Baglers. Skervald is captured and forced to reveal Haakon's location, leading to a brutal attack that kills his family. However, he manages to escape and reunite with Torstein and the other Birkebeiners. In the climactic final battle, the Birkebeiners face off against the Baglers, with Skervald sacrificing himself to protect Inga and Haakon. The Baglers are defeated, and Gisle is taken captive. The film ends with Haakon secured as the next king, and a period of peace in Norway. The Last King is a historical action-adventure film that explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the struggle for power in medieval Norway.
