After a car crash kills his wife, Elliot Anderson is left to raise his biracial granddaughter, Eloise, on his own. When Eloise's paternal grandmother, Rowena, demands custody, a fierce legal battle ensues. Elliot, still reeling from his loss, must confront his own prejudices and the racial tensions that have long simmered beneath the surface of his family. As the custody fight intensifies, old wounds are reopened, and the lines between right and wrong become blurred.
