Stakeout

Stakeout is a 1987 action-comedy-romance film about two detectives, Chris Lecce (Richard Dreyfuss) and Bill Reimers (Emilio Estevez), tasked with staking out the home of a beautiful woman, Maria McGuire (Madeleine Stowe), who is the ex-girlfriend of a dangerous escaped convict, Richard "Stick" Montgomery (Aidan Quinn). As the surveillance turns into a long-term assignment, Chris and Maria develop a romantic relationship, compromising the mission and putting their lives at risk. The film culminates in a shootout at a paper mill, where Chris and Montgomery have a final confrontation, and Maria and Chris start a new life together.
