Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a 1993 American fantasy comedy film directed by Kenny Ortega and written by Mick Garris. The film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, three witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy named Max Dennison (Omri Katz) on Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts. The witches attempt to suck out the soul of Max's younger sister Dani (Thora Birch), but Max comes to her rescue. With the help of a friendly black cat named Binx (voiced by Jason Marsden), who was once a young man named Thackery Binx that was cursed by the witches, Max and Dani try to stop the witches from carrying out their evil plans. The film follows their adventures as they attempt to outwit the witches and save the town of Salem from their spellbound grasp. Along the way, Max develops feelings for Allison Watts (Vinessa Shaw), a girl he met while trick-or-treating. The film features a blend of humor, action, and music, with memorable performances from its cast, particularly Midler, Parker, and Najimy as the titular hocus pocus trio. Despite being released during a time when Disney was struggling at the box office, Hocus Pocus became a surprise hit and has since become a cult classic and staple of Halloween movie marathons.
