Ordet ”episk” används rätt vårdslöst men den kinesiske auteuren Jia Zhangke (Stilla liv, A touch of sin) har förtjänat beskrivningen med det långa, vackra gangsterdramat Ash is the purest white.

Å ena sidan omsorgsfull samhällsskildring. Å andra sidan stiliserad gangsterromantik, något av en rövarhistoria.
