I came into this film not expecting how much I would appreciate a more thoughtful use of animation to tell an engaging story.

You want to teach kids about the horrors of The Great War, a somewhat sanitized cartoon is a better way to do it than say, the grim realism of “War Horse.”

Based on real events, this unconventional family animation about a heroic hound is an easily digested history lesson.
