Shakedown

"Shakedown" is a documentary that takes a vibrant look at the underground world of African American lesbian strip clubs in Los Angeles. Set in the early 2000s, the film follows the story of Ronnie Ron, a butch woman who created and produced a series of parties that celebrated queer strip shows and balls for non-heterosexual audiences. With the help of transwoman Mahogany, the mother of the scene, these shows became a safe space for women from the 'hood' to celebrate their sexuality and identity. The film is a pulsating and empowering portrayal of female sexuality, set to the beat of hip-hop music.
