Harvard graduate James Averill serves as the sheriff of prosperous Jackson County, Wyoming, standing at the center of a conflict between impoverished immigrants and affluent cattle farmers. In 1890, Wyoming, a former Harvard student turned marshal, James Averill, must protect impoverished immigrant farmers from wealthy cattle barons. Averill's old friend, Billy Irvine, is now a member of the powerful Wyoming Stock Growers Association, who are determined to eliminate the immigrants. As tensions rise, Averill finds himself caught between his duty and his loyalty to his friend.
