In a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, a young girl named Osama disguises herself as a boy to survive after her father's death and her mother's job loss. Despite facing danger and discrimination, Osama finds support from a friend and a local boy who renames her. But when the Taliban drafts all boys into their madrasa, Osama's secret is discovered, and she's forced into a marriage with a much older man. The film highlights the struggles of women in a society dominated by religious extremism.
