In 1991, Manuela, a middle-aged woman, works as a cook in Mexico while living with her Serbian grandmother, who fled to Mexico to escape the Second World War. Manuela's life is consumed by the memories and wounds of her grandmother, and the outbreak of the Balkan conflict sends them both into a downward spiral. As the war rages on, their lives become increasingly entangled with the chaos and trauma that surrounds them.
