One year after the events of "Kickboxer: Vengeance", Kurt Sloan has vowed never to return to Thailand. However, while gearing up for a MMA title shot, he finds himself sedated and forced back into Thailand, this time in prison. He is there because the ones responsible want him to face a 6'8" 400 lbs. beast named Mongkut and in return for the fight, Kurt will get two million dollars and his freedom back. Kurt at first refuses, in which a bounty is placed on his head as a way to force him to face Mongkut. Kurt soon learns he will have no other choice and will undergo his most rigorous training yet under some unexpected mentors in order to face Mongkut in hopes to regain his freedom.

The exceptionally fun martial arts beat-em-up "Kickboxer: Retaliation" is a very dumb, and very satisfying throwback to a simpler time when American action films were as predictable as they were formulaic.

Kurt Sloane, a professional mixed martial artist, is forced to return to Thailand after defeating Renato Sobral in a match. He is met by two U.S. Marshals who inform him that he must return to Thailand to be implicated in the death of Tong Po. When Kurt asks to see one of the Marshal's badges, he is tasered and wakes up in a prison in Thailand. There, he meets Thomas Tang Moore, the mastermind behind the underground tournament where Kurt, Eric, and Tong Po have competed. Moore offers Kurt to fight the new champion, Mongkut, a 6'8" 400-lb. fighter, but Kurt refuses. Stuck in prison, Kurt finds himself under constant threat from various prisoners and is whipped by the prison guards each night. During one encounter, Kurt runs into Briggs, an American boxer who soon bonds with Kurt and offers him a way to go through the pain from the whippings. Kurt also learns that his Muay Thai teacher, Durand, is now training some of the prisoners, but reveals a shocking secret.
