In the wind-swept town of Sedona, Arizona, Vienna, a strong-willed saloonkeeper, finds herself at odds with the local cattlemen and townsfolk, who are determined to force her out of town. When a stagecoach holdup goes awry, Vienna's former lover and gunslinger, Johnny Guitar, arrives on the scene, and a smoldering love/hate relationship develops between them. As tensions rise, Vienna and Johnny find themselves in a desperate showdown against the townsfolk and Emma Small, a rival who's jealous of Vienna's relationship with the Dancin' Kid. In the end, only Vienna and Johnny Guitar are left standing, and they ride off into the sunset together, leaving behind the violence and betrayal of their past.
