Dear White People

Dear White People is a satirical drama film that explores racial identity, power dynamics, and stereotypes in a fictional Ivy League college. The movie follows the story of Samantha White, a black student who hosts a radio show and writes a book criticizing white people and their transgressions at Winchester University. Tensions rise when Sam runs for head of house of the historically black Armstrong/Parker house, opposed by her ex-boyfriend Troy, who is pressured by his father, the school's dean, to pursue a career in law. The film also follows the stories of other black students, including Coco, who tries to persuade a reality TV producer to feature her, and Lionel Higgins, a black gay student who finds his place at Winchester by writing a piece on Sam and the black experience at the university. When a white student, Kurt, throws a blackface party in response to Sam's activism, a brawl ensues between black students and white students, highlighting the deep-seated racial tensions at the university. The film is known for its biting humor and its exploration of race and identity in post-racial America.
