In 1959 Romania, a group of ex-resistance fighters and their allies stage a daring bank heist under the guise of filming a movie. The plan goes awry, and they are caught by the secret police. A young cameraman who witnessed the heist is recruited to work on a propaganda film about the Ioanid Gang's crime. As he becomes embroiled in the production, he discovers that the gang members are alive and in prison, and he decides to help them by contacting their loved ones. Meanwhile, tensions rise as the gang's execution date approaches, and a plan is hatched to send them into space instead. Will they be able to escape their fate, or will they ultimately face the firing squad?
