DeMille outdid himself with this lavish account of the Egyptian queen (a vampish Claudette Colbert) whose powers of seduction first charm Julius Caesar (Warren William) and then lead Marc Antony (Henry Wilcoxon) into turning his back on Rome. With its opulent art deco sets, eye-popping cast-of-thousands pageantry, and sexy pre-Code touches, this is (a)historical kitsch at its most entertainingly over-the-top.
