Boy

In 1984, Boy, an 11-year-old Michael Jackson fan, lives with his grandma and brother on a farm in rural New Zealand. When his father, Alamein, returns after years away, Boy is thrilled but soon learns his dad is just there to find a buried bag of money. Boy helps Alamein, who takes him on adventures and teaches him about being a man. However, as Alamein's behavior becomes erratic and dangerous, Boy must confront the reality of his father's shortcomings and choose between his idolized version of Alamein and the man he truly is.
