While the underdog element of this tale is emotionally gratifying, it’s the humanity on unadorned display here that will move you beyond words.

...has all the elements of crowd-pleasing Britflicks such as “The Full Monty,” “Billy Elliott” and “Pride.” It almost cries out to be a Mike Leigh film starring Jim Broadbent and other members of the director’s stock company.

Crowds should cheer the uplifting sports-doc Dark Horse.

It’s a good-humoured, no-frills story of a Welsh working-class community that clubbed together to invest in a thoroughbred, and ended up with the winner of the Welsh Grand National.

The movie swells with unusual pride, inspiration and hope.

It's hard not to be seduced by this folky yarn.
