Sweeney, to her credit, is quite excellent though and it's because of her that any forward momentum is found within the film.

Despite some creative missteps, there’s still some fight left in “Christy” and Sweeney to make it to the next round. 

Solid sports drama stuff, but this ain’t ringing no box office bells.

Everyone’s trying very hard in Christy, in the ring and out of it, but it doesn’t always make for convincing viewing.

While many sports biopics are about grit, determination, and triumph, Christy steps into a different ring—one in which the fight is for identity, dignity, and survival.

It’s so busy depicting the worst events of her life, it has no time to sell us on the supposed sense of triumph that it insists is there. I’m unconvinced.
