The Witch - Kritiken

I've talked a lot about what The Witch is about without mentioning how well it's about it. That's partly because the film is so consistently engrossing that surrendered to it early on.

...situates itself very purposefully in an actual time and place; it doesn’t require some huge mental leap to connect its fictional terrors to the very real ones inflicted upon a group of innocents in the same geographic region...

...The Witch plants its pitchfork proudly in the more unsettling landscape of evocative, intelligent modern horror.

Det er svært ikke at forvente sig meget af Robert Eggers, hvis stilsikre debutfilm indkasserer gys på den gammeldags måde: Gennem timing, atmosfære og selvsikkerhed nok til at lade billederne fortælle.

...en ovanligt originell skräckfilm som inte följer de vanliga stöpta mallarna.

Att The Witch har ett långsammare tempo som tar sin tid för att bygga upp stämningen ser jag som något positivt. Filmen slänger inte med några "jump scares" för att skrämma dig, utan den gör det med sin atmosfär och några otäcka scener.
