Based on real events, "Truth" follows veteran CBS News producer Mary Mapes and her team as they break a controversial story about President George W. Bush's questionable military service during the 2004 election. As they investigate, they discover documents that suggest Bush received preferential treatment and went AWOL for a year. However, the authenticity of these documents is quickly called into question, and Mapes and her team face intense scrutiny and criticism from the media and the public. Dan Rather, the iconic anchor of 60 Minutes, reports the story, but is eventually forced to apologize for presenting the material as fact. The scandal ultimately leads to the downfall of Mapes, her crew, and Rather, raising questions about the role of media and political agendas in journalism.
