The wholesome, fun-in-the-sun ’50s classic that launched a wave of sequels and an entire subgenre of beach-party movies stars winsome Sandra Dee as the spirited titular teenager, who’s searching for some excitement on her summer vacation. While hitting the beach, she discovers the pleasures of the California surf culture, along the way falling for two hunky, bronzed beach bums (Cliff Robertson and James Darren) and proving that she’s got what it takes to ride the waves with the boys.
