In the midst of 1960s San Francisco's counterculture, a mysterious dream-eating creature known as a Baku has escaped from the secretive Cryptozoo, a refuge for mythical beings. Lauren Grey, a veterinarian cryptozoologist and the zoo's main guardian, embarks on a mission to recapture the Baku before it falls into the wrong hands. As she navigates her way through underground cryptid-hunting rings, Lauren must confront her own past encounters with the creature and decide whether to protect or display these enigmatic beasts. Meanwhile, a chance encounter between two lovers leads to an unpredictable chain of events that threatens to disrupt the Cryptozoo's delicate balance of secrecy and protection.
