What is Manderlay about? 
In the follow-up to Dogville, Grace and her father travel through rural Alabama in 1933, stumbling upon a plantation called Manderlay where slavery still reigns. Appalled by the injustice, Grace decides to stay and teach the white family and their slaves about democracy and freedom. But as she delves deeper into the community, she realizes that change is not coming easily, and her attempts to improve the situation only seem to make things worse. The film follows Grace's journey as she struggles to embed her ideals in the community and confronts the harsh reality of a society still deeply rooted in slavery.
