Bigas Luna’s follow-up to his international hit JAMÓN JAMÓN is a deliriously libidinous, scathingly satirical takedown of toxic machismo and capitalist excess. A superbly earthy Javier Bardem stars as Benito González, the unabashedly tacky, supremely cocky womanizer and wannabe industrialist whose dreams of building an enormous skyscraper—an appropriately phallic ode to his monumental ego—come crashing down spectacularly. Luna cranks up the sexually supercharged hothouse atmosphere while gleefully cutting the “great man” myth down to size.

Retrato de una España machista, corrupta y maltractadora y para representar todo eso, Bigas Luna se aprovecha de las imágenes de dos grandes actores: Bardem y Gassman; por todo lo demás, historia bastante mediocre y lenta.
